Friday Fancies

This week I have a question in addition to some favorite things. The other day I alluded to having read this book. Because of something that one of the characters reads in the course of the story (and notwithstanding what I previously said about mystery novels), I want to try reading something by Agatha Christie. Have you ever read anything by her? Do you have a recommendation for one of her books that I should start with? I'd love to hear about it if you do.

Now, on to the things that caught my eye this week.

Some sweet little illustrations.

These book collections--a splurge indeed.

A fun look at (and quiz about) some Liberty fabric prints.

And this apartment, for its interesting mix of vintage, Victorian, modern, and shabby chic styles.

  1. you won't go wrong with any Agatha book! you know i love her. i would suggest a hercule poirot book(as opposed to miss marple). maybe murder on the orient express, or 'and then there were none'.

    1. I checked out And Then There Were None from the library. Haven't started it yet, but it sounds good!

  2. I agree with romanowl, Murder on the Orient Express is maybe one of my favorites! (hercule poirot is the protag in that one...) But, her Miss Marple books are great, because a) they have a female protag (always a plus for me) and b) She is a sly, often-understimated hero. Plus, she's and old lady...and I know how we both feel about old ladies. Like, we secretly ARE them. ;)

    1. In keeping with the old lady theme, a good portion of the Agatha Christie books were filed in the large print section of the library!

  3. Can't say much about Agatha Christie, because I've only read one of her books. (Mysteries aren't really my thing.) But I just adore those book collections! Thanks for the link!

  5. I, too, agree with Romanowl, you can't go wrong with Agatha, and The Murder on the Orient Express is the best known probably for a reason (I love them all...) I agree with Nic too, on Miss Marple...I read her when I was secretly an old lady, and now I actually AM an old lady...(although just like Miss Marple, I'm not an old lady on the inside...) Read one of each, Hercule and Miss Marple, and decide for yourself. I can't wait to hear your take on them. Makes me hungry for one right now... Moving to the bookshelf to find one... I know I have one somewhere...
